Managing The Media

More and more, management has to speak with the Media. It may be some special information you want to release. You may need or want to respond to a specific situation. You may want to seek a higher profile for your Company or Organization.

Whatever the reason, you need to follow the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides Motto “Be Prepared”.

You can’t afford to wait until there is a crisis to which you must suddenly respond.

Overview:

When you are being interviewed by the Media, there is always a certain degree of

pressure. You’re not only representing yourself, you’re representing your Organization or Company. This unit helps you overcome that fear or pressure by showing how to feel at home with the Media.

You will learn to:

• Understanding the Media
• Know what they want and what you want - and how to make it a “win/win”.
• Manage the interview – my place or yours? Telephone or interview?
• Identify what is News – and what is not!
• Prepare yourself for a positive outcome.
• Work with a microphone and/or a TV camera
• Prepare a press release so the Media uses it.

Results:

• Workshops include a media facilitator. Participants have the opportunity not only to learn media methods but to practice them. There will be on-mic and on-camera opportunities with feed-back. Participants will be prepared when the media calls; when they want to inform the media; and when a crisis means you must involve the media.

Delivery Mode:

• one-on-one coaching
• Half-day; full day; two-day workshop [maximum eight participants]
• Two day workshop [successive days or one week apart]

Fee: • does not include travel costs or special equipment rental.
